I am a Manitowoc native and a graduate of Roncalli High School.
I attended Marquette University for undergrad and then completed medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin. I spent the first two decades of my practice in Green Bay
I pride myself on being an innovator and bringing cutting edge technology to my patients. In 2009, I was the first surgeon in Northeast Wisconsin to perform anterior hip replacement. This was a major turning point in my career, as I was able to elevate the level of care offered to local patients. I have also spent the past 10 years of my career striving to enhance outcomes for patients who receive total knee replacement, through a team approach to care and innovative methods in postoperative pain management. We were one of the first surgical teams in the region to offer outpatient joint replacement. In 2021, we performed the very first FDA-approved augmented reality total knee replacement in the United States at Froedtert Holy Family Memorial Hospital.
Outside of medicine, I enjoy managing wildlife on my property in Door County and spending time in the outdoors. My wife and I will be empty-nesters starting this summer and look forward to this next chapter.
I have had many successes in my career, surgical successes; orthopedic design patents; cofounded of a surgical company to provide quality products manufactured in Wisconsin to provide safer positioning devices for orthopedic surgeons sold around the world; co-authored several surgical publications, educated hip surgeons on the Sacroiliac joint, Covid left me soul searching!
With a reported rate nationally of 1 out 5 total knee patients dissatisfied with their results; I have dedicated the rest of my career to make my knee patients equally satisfied as hip patients; I left Green Bay on a sabbatical to find a better way. My theory was simple, if I could put your knee back into your alignment and not align everyone’s knee the same, maybe patients would be happier! I discovered knee gait analysis; adapted natural knee alignments, kinematic alignments techniques, refined my gap balancing techniques; trained in Makoplasty and Rosa robotic surgery, and introduced the US market to Arvis Augmented Reality to adapt precision measurement used in so many nonmedical fields in a way to not distract the focus of the surgeon!
